Pick the wrong teammate and a whole fight can fall apart. Pick the right one and the same fight feels easy.
That is why you should know the cast before you spend a single Warp. The Honkai Star Rail characters come with a lot to track.
Each one has a Path, an Element, a faction, and a place in the story. Some are free, some are limited, and some have alternate forms that play nothing like the original, even when the name stays the same.
Details like age and height are trickier, because the game rarely states them.
You can scan the list for a quick answer or read each short profile for the story behind the name. First, here is why no two characters feel alike.
Why Every Character Feels Different
Every playable character brings a different mix of story, design, and battle tools. Some focus on one enemy, while others damage groups, protect allies, or restore health.
A character’s Path gives you a broad role, and their Element helps break matching enemy weaknesses. Rarity affects how you usually get a unit, but it doesn’t determine a team’s value.
The roster also includes alternate forms with changed skills and roles. For this reason, the list below uses consistent labels and clearly marks uncertain profile details.
Once you understand those labels, comparing the full cast becomes much easier and more useful.
Five-Star Characters
Five-star characters often arrive through limited Warps, standard Warps, story progress, or special rewards.
Their kits may introduce unusual team mechanics, though a higher rarity does not suit every account.
The numbered profiles below cover the game’s longest-established five-star cast, each with a short background, a combat summary, and labeled points for Element, Path, rarity, faction, age, and height.
Exact ages and measurements remain unconfirmed for most of the cast. Where a widely used fan estimate exists, it is listed alongside a note that it is not an official figure.
Model labels appear only as community comparisons and should not be read as official heights.

Remembrance arrived with the Amphoreus storyline, and Elation followed in Version 4.0.

Quantum | Element | Entanglement after Weakness Break |
Imaginary | Element | Imprisonment after Weakness Break |
A Path gives a starting point, but the complete kit decides how a unit works. Element choice matters most when it matches an enemy weakness.
If you also track another gacha cast, our guide to Arknights Endfxield operators sorts that roster by type.
Youngest, Oldest, Tallest, and Shortest
A few characters anchor the extremes of the roster.
Youngest: Hook, estimated at 10-12 years old, in the same range as Clara and Misha (Yanqing’s wider 8-14 estimate overlaps)
Oldest: Jingliu, estimated at over 1,800 years old, with Xueyi and Hanya both cited at 1,000+
Tallest: Argenti and Luocha, both estimated around 6’3″, though charts disagree on the exact order at the top
Shortest: Hook, estimated at 3’9″, though a few community charts place Bailu level with her
These figures come from fan comparisons built on lore and shared body models, not from a published HoYoverse chart, so treat them as a starting point rather than a confirmed record.
Character Age and Height Information
Most character ages and heights are not part of official profiles. Fans often use dialogue, family links, artwork, and shared body models to form broad estimates.
Those comparisons can show a general life stage or model group, but they cannot confirm exact numbers. Long-lived species make age comparisons harder because appearance does not match a normal human timeline.
Footwear, posture, camera angles, and animation poses can also change height comparisons. For these reasons, the list above uses simple evidence labels.
Official: Directly stated in an official profile, story entry, or game notice.
Story clue: Supported by dialogue or history without an exact confirmed number.
Fan estimate: Based on broad in-game body-model comparisons and community consensus.
Unknown: No dependable age or height information is available.
These labels keep a popular estimate from passing as a confirmed fact.
How to Choose a Character for Your Team
The best character for your account depends on the job your current team cannot fill. Start by checking if you need damage, healing, protection, buffs, or enemy debuffs.
Next, compare the character’s Element with the weaknesses found in the content you are playing. You should also consider skill-point use and how often teammates attack or use follow-up actions.
A strong unit can still feel awkward inside the wrong group. Build a small, balanced team before spreading materials across many characters.
That approach keeps early progress steady and makes later roster choices easier to judge. Review your current roster before choosing another unit.

Conclusion
Honkai: Star Rail characters make more sense once you sort them by rarity and Path. Rarity shows how a unit usually arrives, and the Path shows the job it does on your team.
The best pick is usually the unit that fills your team’s weakest slot. A plain kit that covers a real gap often beats a flashy one that repeats a role.
Ages and heights stay fan estimates until HoYoverse publishes real numbers, so enjoy them as extra context.
Every new version adds names, so your favorites list will keep changing.
